Reality Show Commercials

Slicksta can’t help but get teary-eyed when these commercials come on:

The Contender
Misty images of Sugar-Ray and Sly Stallone with their arms crossed. Children hug their fathers’ necks as the music (deep, sonorous brass) swells. The feeling evoked is one of pride, glory . . . “My dad beat up your dad”. Slicksta rises from the couch and salutes.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
A beautiful home. Slow-motion images of family members looking surprised and delighted. Fat mothers cry. Fat fathers’ mouthes hang open. Children with disabilities hug workers legs. Slicksta looks around his tiny apartment and weeps.

  1. I ditched work during the holiday season one year and went to watch “Elf” with the Pea. I cried actual (not theoretical) tears of joy when everyone got holiday spirit in the movie. I’m really only bringing that up so I can say - thank you, TIVO, for saving me many tears that I can now save in my ducts for Oprah.
